Homemade Hummus

So I love hummus.  I don’t love paying for it.  It’s very easy to make, cheaper to make it yourself and I think it tastes much better than anything I’ve bought.

There are so many variations on hummus.  Here’s how to make a basic hummus.  You know what you like, so build on it from there.

Ingredients:

1 cup Garbanzo beans (chickpeas)

3 cups of water or vegetable or chicken stock

Herbs of your choice

2 cloves of garlic

Either soak your beans overnight (8 hours) in cold water or do a quick soak (bring to boil and let sit for one hour).

Rinse beans and cook for at least one hour in 3 cups water, chicken stock or vegetable stock with herbs of choice.

Let beans cool a bit and then place into food processor

Process and add olive oil until smooth and it has reached the desired texture.

Now for variations:

I have roasted vegetables (onions, red peppers, carrots) and popped them into the food processor along with the beans. YUMMY

I have put hot peppers (jalapeno, cayenne, etc) in the food processor with the beans. YUMMY.

I have added just roasted garlic and it was equally YUMMY.
